Why it works

Why this email works

  1. 1It is written by the owner, not the shop. Marcus signs it with his name and his job, and mentions cutting hair in his sister's kitchen before he had the lease. A new client finds out who will be holding the clippers.
  2. 2The details are dates and names. One chair in 2011, four barbers and two stylists now, Dana on color since 2014. Ray will tell you what he thinks of your part, politely. Lines like these are what a reader remembers.
  3. 3Each service comes with a price. Haircut $38, beard $25, highlights from $130, each with a sentence on what happens and how long it takes. Nobody has to call the shop to ask what a cut costs.
  4. 4It ends with one clear action. Book an appointment sits under the prices, with hours and walk-in times below it. A first-time reader gets the cost, the time and the next step on one screen.

Since 2011

Fourteen years on Main Street

One chair in 2011. Four now, plus two sinks and a steady line on Saturday mornings. Same corner, same owner, same clippers.

Hi Alex,

I cut hair in my sister's kitchen for eight years before I had enough saved to sign a lease. Shear & Co opened in March 2011 with one chair and a folding table for the till.

We are four barbers and two stylists now. Dana has been here since 2014 and does most of the color. Ray runs the barber side and will tell you what he thinks of your part, politely.

On a first visit we take twenty minutes to ask what you want before the clippers come out. Book a haircut and see.

See you in the chair,

Marcus

Owner and barber

What happens in the chair

Most booked

Haircut

A wash, a cut and a finish, $38. Thirty minutes, or forty-five if you have a lot of hair.

Barber side

Beard

Hot towel, straight razor or clippers, $25. Ray finishes with a cold towel and a bit of balm.

Color

Highlights

Full foil from $130, gray blending from $65. Dana will quote you at the chair.

I brought a photo of a haircut I liked and Marcus matched it in one go. Four years later I still drive past two other shops to get here.
