Why it works
Why this email works
- 1The subject line names three things. Squash soup, wine night, Sunday chicken. A reader scanning their inbox knows what is new before opening, and all three come back inside with a date or a price.
- 2Every item carries a time and a price. Soup from Tuesday, November 4, at $9 a bowl. Wine night from 5 pm to 9 pm, glasses $7. Roast chicken from noon until it runs out. Readers can decide before they click.
- 3The button asks for one thing. Book a table sits under the wine night details, right after the times and the price. The other two items need no booking, so they get no button.
- 4It ends with why they got it. The last line says they signed up at the café, and Nora signs it as the owner. That is enough to keep it from reading like an ad.

Hi Alex,
November means squash soup. We roast butternut with sage and a little brown butter, blend it smooth, and finish each bowl with pepitas and olive oil. It is on the menu from Tuesday, November 4, at $9 a bowl or $13 with a grilled cheese.
Book the Thursday wine night online or at the counter. Tables of two to six. We keep twelve bottles open at the bar, so you can try before you commit to a glass.
Sunday roast chicken starts at noon and runs until it is gone. Coffee opens at 7 am every day, including Sunday, if you want to come early and read the paper.
See you soon,
Nora
